As a Facility Manager you have the task to ensure that every employee feels of value and comfortable within the organisation. A Facility Department often depends on operational staff. This work is often unskilled but very important. However, it is an excellent opportunity for people with limited employment opportunities to connect easily with the working population. The Dutch government stimulates the participation of people with limited employment opportunities, caused by disability, long-term unemployment or long-term social assistance, by law.
‘Helpgewoon’ is a network of worker cooperatives, where people work in a small-scale environment. They are passionate about their profession, have control over their life, are empowered and work with full attention. The basic principle here is: to contribute to a better and cleaner world which focusses on people and nature, equitable distribution of resources and participation. ‘Schoongewoon’ is an example of a worker cooperative. Employees decide together on new assignments, schedules, purchase of resources and their approach to work. The outcome is: everyone is involved, the absence rate is low and the clients are happy. In addition, their hourly wage is higher since there is no management involved. This sustainable and trusted form of collaboration is accessible for everyone including people with limited employment opportunities.
