Half of the world population lives in urban territories. The world population that lives in these cities will increase in the coming years. Sustainable growth is one of the challenges that cities will face in the future. Facility Management can contribute to sustainable growth by maintaining buildings, neighbourhoods and cities. Sustainable and intelligent buildings help to reduce CO2 levels.
The City of Amsterdam has adopted the objective of The Paris Agreement. By 2030 they want to reduce 55% of their CO2 emissions and use 50% less primary raw materials. The ambition is to have Amsterdam fully circular by the end of 2050. The city of Amsterdam is growing, therefore the objective will be applied in the construction field. Amsterdam embraces the use of renewable and secondary materials. Reuse and recycling of materials released during renovation and demolition work on buildings helps to close the circle of raw materials. This is a form of affordable housing and at the same time a contribution to circular economy.
